The Changing Landscape of International Development in Aotearoa/New Zealand

This paper considers the impacts a change of government is having upon the international development community in Aotearoa / New Zealand. The new National Government has implemented dramatic changes to the structure and nature of the New Zealand government aid programme. The paper looks at the rationale for this restructuring and the impacts it is having upon the international development sector, with a particular focus on New Zealand-based non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

Paddling on one side of the canoe?: The changing nature of New Zealand’s development assistance programme
by Glenn Banks, Warwick E Murray, John Overton and Regina Scheyvens.

This paper examines recent shifts in the operation of the New Zealand aid programme, setting them amongst the broader context of the changes to New Zealand aid that have taken place over the last 40 years. It offers both commentary and analysis on recent changes but also provides a history of our aid programme.
